5 Motivational and Inspiring Short Stories

1. Everyone Has a Story in Life
A 24 year old boy seeing out from the train’s window shouted…
“Dad, look the trees are going behind!”
Dad smiled and a young couple sitting nearby, looked at the 24 year old’s childish behavior with pity, suddenly he again exclaimed…
“Dad, look the clouds are running with us!”
The couple couldn’t resist and said to the old man…
“Why don’t you take your son to a good doctor?”The old man smiled and said…“I did and we are just coming from the hospital, my son was blind from birth, he just got his eyes today.
Every single person on the planet has a story. Don’t judge people before you truly know them. The truth might surprise you.
2. Shake off Your Problems
A man's favorite donkey falls into a deep precipice; He can't pull it out no matter how hard he tries; He therefore decides to bury it alive.
Soil is poured onto the donkey from above. The donkey feels the load, shakes it off, and steps on it; More soil is poured.
It shakes it off and steps up; The more the load was poured, the higher it rose; By noon, the donkey was grazing in green pastures.
After much shaking off (of problems) And stepping up (learning from them), One will graze in GREEN PASTURES.
3. The Elephant Rope
As a man was passing the elephants, he suddenly stopped, confused by the fact that these huge creatures were being held by only a small rope tied to their front leg. No chains, no cages. It was obvious that the elephants could, at anytime, break away from their bonds but for some reason, they did not.
He saw a trainer nearby and asked why these animals just stood there and made no attempt to get away. “Well,” trainer said, “when they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them and, at that age, it’s enough to hold them. As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free.”
The man was amazed. These animals could at any time break free from their bonds but because they believed they couldn’t, they were stuck right where they were.
Like the elephants, how many of us go through life hanging onto a belief that we cannot do something, simply because we failed at it once before?
Failure is part of learning; we should never give up the struggle in life.
4. Potatoes, Eggs, and Coffee Beans
Once upon a time a daughter complained to her father that her life was miserable and that she didn’t know how she was going to make it. She was tired of fighting and struggling all the time. It seemed just as one problem was solved, another one soon followed.
Her father, a chef, took her to the kitchen. He filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Once the three pots began to boil, he placed potatoes in one pot, eggs in the second pot, and ground coffee beans in the third pot.
He then let them sit and boil, without saying a word to his daughter. The daughter, moaned and impatiently waited, wondering what he was doing.
After twenty minutes he turned off the burners. He took the potatoes out of the pot and placed them in a bowl. He pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl.
He then ladled the coffee out and placed it in a cup. Turning to her he asked. “Daughter, what do you see?”
“Potatoes, eggs, and coffee,” she hastily replied.
“Look closer,” he said, “and touch the potatoes.” She did and noted that they were soft. He then asked her to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard-boiled egg. Finally, he asked her to sip the coffee. Its rich aroma brought a smile to her face.
“Father, what does this mean?” she asked.
He then explained that the potatoes, the eggs and coffee beans had each faced the same adversity– the boiling water.
However, each one reacted differently.
The potato went in strong, hard, and unrelenting, but in boiling water, it became soft and weak.
The egg was fragile, with the thin outer shell protecting its liquid interior until it was put in the boiling water. Then the inside of the egg became hard.
However, the ground coffee beans were unique. After they were exposed to the boiling water, they changed the water and created something new.
“Which are you,” he asked his daughter. “When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a potato, an egg, or a coffee bean? “
Moral:In life, things happen around us, things happen to us, but the only thing that truly matters is what happens within us.
Which one are you?
5. A Dish of Ice Cream
In the days when an ice cream sundae cost much less, a 10 year old boy entered a hotel coffee shop and sat at a table. A waitress put a glass of water in front of him.
“How much is an ice cream sundae?”
“50 cents,” replied the waitress.
The little boy pulled his hand out of his pocket and studied a number of coins in it.
“How much is a dish of plain ice cream?” he inquired. Some people were now waiting for a table and the waitress was a bit impatient.
“35 cents,” she said brusquely.
The little boy again counted the coins. “I’ll have the plain ice cream,” he said.
The waitress brought the ice cream, put the bill on the table and walked away. The boy finished the ice cream, paid the cashier and departed.
When the waitress came back, she began wiping down the table and then swallowed hard at what she saw.
There, placed neatly beside the empty dish, were 15 cents – her tip

10 Steps To Achieving Your Life Dreams

Step 1. First Things First

Before jumping in and setting goals to change your life for good, it is necessary to evaluate where you are and what is most important to you. Here are four key questions to ask yourself and to answer honestly in order to make sure you have the best chance to achieve your goals. Take some time to really reflect and think about these.
  1. What were my successes in 2010 – personal and professional?
  2. What were some of my shortcomings in 2010?
  3. What three things could I change professionally and personally that would have a significant impact on 2011?
  4. What am I truly grateful for?

Step 2. Set SMART Goals

Once we fully understand where we are, where we have been and what is most important to us, we can then focus on setting the right goals. In setting each goal, keep in mind they have to be SMART, Specific,Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely. Be sure to put each goal through the SMART test.  For example, let’s say you want to bill $500K in revenue. Your goals should look like this:
“ I, Joe Recruiter, am committed to bill $500K in 2011. I will do this by billing $100K in Q1, $125K in Q2, $125K in Q3 and $150K in Q4. In order to do this I am committed to five First Time Sendouts per week, four or more hours of phone time per day, two new accounts per month and improving my major account development skills. “
Pay particularly close attention to the language. Joe is not going to try, or attempt or even work hard to achieve$500K in billings. Joe is “Committed.”  Also, Joe is very specific on how he will achieve this $500K in billings per year and the activities he needs to focus on DAILY to achieve them.  Not only do you need to set Smart Goals, but you also need to use the right language and back it up with how.

Step 3. Define the Obstacles and How You Get Past Them

There are always obstacles in the way of achieving goals. Life happens fast. Kids need to go to soccer practice, the house needs to be cleaned, dinner needs to be made, etc… There will always be things that vie for your time and detract you from the activities needed to attain your goal. Make sure you take the time to identify the obstacles in business and in life that will hinder your goal achievement. Once they are defined, determine how you will overcome them.  Kids cannot miss practice and we all need to eat; you can’t stop doing the things that are important to you and need to be done. However what you can do is adjust schedules and plan to get up earlier if needed – whatever can be done to do what you need to do to address the obstacles.

Step 4. Develop the Action plan

Without a plan to make your goal happen it is all but a wish or a dream – that most likely will never materialize. An action plan is the detailed outline of the steps needed to achieve the desired outcome. The more detailed the plan with time, dates, and specific actions steps needed, the better. Your action plan is your road map from where you are now, to where you want to go.

Step 5. What are the Critical Milestones

Milestones are like measuring points to compare your progress to. If I need to go visit my parents in Corunna, Michigan from Cincinnati, Ohio – the important milestones are getting through Lima in about an hour, Toledo in about 2.5 hours and finally hitting the Cabelas store in Dundee Michigan in about 3 hours. If it really was only that simple.
Milestones are critical as they measure your progress and tell you if you are ahead of plan, which is always good, or behind which may require changes to the action plan to get back on track in order to attain any time frame goals. In recruiting, setting yearly goals is very important. But backing them up with quarterly, monthly, weekly, and daily targets are even more essential. If you don’t ever hit your daily goals, nothing else will matter.

Step 6. Get an Accountability Partner

It is extremely difficult to do this stuff alone. While you ‘re doing your best to be as disciplined as possible and are facing the adversity that the world has thrown at you, it can seem insurmountable. Having someone there to keep you on track and give you encouragement along the way can make all the difference in the world. Find someone who knows you, who will be honest with you if get off track, but also someone who can inspire you when the chips are down.

Step 7. Believe

In the Claude Bristol book, “The Magic of Believing,” he spells out the power of belief. In studying miracles all over the world that have occurred in different religions, the findings were staggering. It didn’t matter what the religion was that affected the outcome. It was the strength of the “Belief” that was the major factor in the miracle actually happening. Your personal belief that you can achieve your goals is critical to your success in goal attainment.
On a personal note, I had my third left knee surgery at toward the end of 2008. As some of you may know I compete nationally in the Masters Track and Field series every year in the field event Pole Vaulting. It gives individuals over 30 the chance to remain in competition. Three times a charm right? After work had been done on my knee, my orthopedic surgeon strongly suggested I never run on it regularly again. That’s right, never. For those of you who don’t know the sport of Pole Vaulting, running is an integral part. Needless to say I was devastated by this news. Not exactly what you want to hear if you have a passion for something. After feeling sorry myself for several days, I started doing research on exercises to strengthen my knee. I began an intense workout program filled with plyometrics, strength training and speed exercises. Progress was slow at first, but I kept the faith. I had to believe I could do it. In 2010 I won the Pole Vault Indoor National Championships in Boston and took third at the Outdoor National Championships in Sacramento in July. My sights are firmly set on winning the World Outdoor Championships set for July 2011. Your belief in yourself and your passion for your goal can help you overcome any obstacle.

Step 8. Define Your Why

If there is one thing that you can do to ensure you reach any goal you set, it’s developing a powerful “WHY.” Your “WHY” is the reason you do what you do. It’s what will motivate you to climb any mountain or even walk through a brick wall in the face of adversity. It could be a person who came into or an event that happened in your life. It could be an experience that you never want to experience again, or someone that you feel so much for, you will never ever let them down.  By defining your why, and truly letting it become part of your soul, you can become unstoppable in achieving anything you put your mind to.
One of my “WHY”s in life came from a time when I couldn’t afford my little baby girl’s 6-month shots. I was 23 years old at the time and had just started a new job. I had two car payments and a mortgage that were bigger than I thought. The thought today, 24 years later, of not being able to afford care for my daughter still strikes a chord of anger and a rush of adrenalin to my heart. This was one of the things that helped me with the ability to overcome any type of adversity that has come my way for years.

Step 9. Dream Big and Set the Bar High

In the information on goal setting, Locke and Latham say to not make the goals too big. We as humans however are capable of achieving great things. Every year, world records are broken for speed, strength, intellect, and how many hot dogs someone can devour. We have no idea still of the true potential of any human being. The only thing we do know is that we are far from reaching it.  You really have no idea of what your true potential is – in recruiting, in business, in sports, or in life. I don’t claim to know why we were put on earth, but I do know that it wasn’t to be average. We are not sheep, born to follow. We were given life to excel and do the extraordinary.  I encourage you to set the bar high and see what unlimited potential can be achieved in your life.

Step 10: Reward yourself… Celebrate

A reward system works wonders to keep you passionate and motivated. When you reach a milestone, you need to celebrate. When you overcome an obstacle – celebrate. You need to develop a habit of rewarding yourself for a job well done. When you hit your metrics for recruiting, you need to celebrate and reward yourself. Achieving a goal is like climbing a mountain. At each new altitude you reach, stop for a second and celebrate your progress. On the other hand, if you come up short, ask yourself why it happened, make the corrections needed and go forward. Don’t get too down on yourself – be disappointed, but believe. In then end, it’s not about the individual game; it’s about being on top at the end of the season. Your success will spur you on to achieve even greater things in going forward.
My inspiration in writing this article is to help anyone who is now struggling to reach what they want in life. If you are like most people, there are many things you would like changed in business and other areas. As stated earlier, change is not easy. Like many things in life, the secret to goal achievement is in understanding the process and the key elements involved. Take time to ask the relevant questions to evaluate where you are before you start setting goals. Set SMART goals, establish milestones, identify your obstacles, and determine a plan to over come them. If you develop a good action plan and back it up with a strong “why,” you will be 99% of the way to achieving what you want.
I look forward to celebrating your success with you in 2011.
Bill Gates – A Success Story

Bill Gates was born on October 28, 1955 in Seattle in a family having rich business, political and community service background. His great-grandfather was a state legislator and a mayor, his grandfather was vice president of national bank and his father was a lawyer.

Bill believed in achieving his goals through hard work. He also believes that if you are intelligent and know how to use your intelligence, you can reach your goals and targets. From his early days Bill was ambitious, competitive and intelligent. These qualities helped him to attain great position in the profession he chose also Bill was deemed by his peers and his teachers as the smartest kid on campus; Bill’s parents came to know their son’s intelligence and decided to enroll him in a private school, known for its intense academic environment. That was the most important decision in Bill Gate’s life where he was first introduced to computers. Bill Gates and his friends were very much interested in computer and formed “Programmers Group” in late 1968. Being in this group, they found a new way to apply their computer skill in university of Washington. In the next year, they got their first opportunity in Information Sciences Inc. in which they were selected as programmers. ISI (Information Sciences Inc.) agreed to give them royalties, whenever it made money from any of the group’s program. As a result of the business deal signed with Information Sciences Inc., the group also became a legal business.

Bill Gates and his close friend Allen formed a new company of their own, Traf-O-Data. They developed a small computer to measure traffic flow. From this project they earned around $20,000. The era of Traf-O-Data came to an end when Gates left the college. Upon graduating from Lakeside Bill enrolled in Harvard University in 1973, one of the best universities in the country, He didn’t know what to do, so he enrolled his name for pre-law. He took the standard freshman courses with the exception of signing up for one of Harvard’s toughest mathematics courses. He did well over there, but he couldn’t find it interesting too. He spent many long nights in front of the school’s computer and the next day asleep in class. After leaving school, he almost lost himself from the world of computers. Gates and his friend Paul Allen remained in close contact even though they were away from school. They would often discuss new ideas for future projects and the possibility of starting a business one fine day. At the end of Bill’s first year, Allen came close to him so that they could follow some of their ideas. That summer they got job in Honeywell. Allen kept on pushing Bill for opening a new software company.

Within a year, Bill Gates dropped out from Harvard. Then he formed Microsoft. Microsoft’s vision is “A computer on every desk and Microsoft software on every computer”. Bill is a visionary person and works very hard to achieve his vision. His belief in high intelligence and hard work has put him where he is today. He does not believe in mere luck or God’s grace, but just hard work and competitiveness. Bill’s Microsoft is good competition for other software companies and he will continue to stomp out (challenge) the competition until he dies. He likes to play the game of Risk and the game of world domination. His beliefs are so powerful, which have helped him increase his wealth and his monopoly in the industry.

Bill Gates is not a greedy person. In fact, he is quite giving person when it comes to computers, internet and any kind of funding. Some years back, he visited Chicago’s Einstein Elementary School and announced grants benefiting Chicago’s schools and museums where he donated a total of $110,000, a bunch of computers, and provided internet connectivity to number of schools. Secondly, Bill Gates donated 38 million dollars for the building of a computer institute at Stanford University.

Karni Mata (Hindi: करणी माता or Karniji) (date of birth and death unknown but traditionally believed by followers to be 2 October 1387 – 23 March 1538,[1]) was a female Hindu sage born in the Charan caste. She is worshiped as the incarnation of the goddessDurga by her followers.[1] She is an official deity of the royal family of Jodhpur and Bikaner. She lived an ascetic life and was widely revered during her own lifetime. At the request of the Maharaja of Bikaner, she laid the foundation stones for two important forts in the region. The most famous of her temples is in the small town of Deshnoke, near Bikaner in Rajasthan, and was created following her mysterious disappearance from her home. The temple is famous for its white rats, which are treated as sacred and given protection in the temple. Contrary to some reports, the temple is not affiliated with Jainism. Another temple dedicated to her during her lifetime differs from others in that it does not contain an image or idol of her, but rather contains a foot-print to symbolize her visit to that place. Karni mata is also referred to as Nari Bai.
According to tradition, Karni mata was originally the wife of depoji Charan of the village of Sathika. However, she later expressed to her husband her unwillingness to engage in matrimonial relations. He initially humoured her, thinking that she would relent in time. Instead of doing so Karni arranged for him to marry her own younger sister Gulab so that he might have a proper married life. She herself remained celibate all her life, with the concurrence and support of her husband.
Karni lived in her in-laws' village for about two years before leaving with her followers and a herd of cattle to live a nomadic life, camping at sunset. One such camp was made at the village of Jangloo; but a servant of Rao Kanha, who was ruler of the place, denied them access to water for the people and cows. Karni Mata declared her follower Rao Ridmal of Chandasar as new ruler of the village and continued on her journey. When she reached near Deshnok, Rao Kanha himself came to oppose her camping but he died.[clarification needed] Karni Mata stopped wandering further, and settled there. Her husband Depoji died in 1454.
In 1453, she gave her blessing to Rao Jodha of Jodhpur for conquering Ajmer, Merta and Mandor. In 1457 she went to Jodhpur at Rao Jodha's request, to lay the cornerstone of the fort at Jodhpur.
Her first temple was constructed in the village of Mathania during her lifetime by her follower Amara Charan. In 1472, she arranged the marriage of Rao Bika, the fifth son of Rao Jodha, and Rang Kunwar, daughter of Rao Shekha of Pungal, to turn the enmity of the Rathor and Bhatian families into friendship. In 1485, she laid the foundation stone of the fort of Bikaner at the request of Rao Bika. In 1538, Karniji went to visit the Maharaja of Jaisalmer. On 21 March of that year she was travelling back to Deshnok with her stepson Poonjar and a few other followers. They were near Gadiyala and Girirajsar of the Kolayat tehsil in Bikaner district when she asked the caravan to stop for water. She disappeared there, reportedly at the age of 151 years.
